Animating

So my latest project has me animating so much at work that I've decided to practice more at home. I love to model and texture but as of late found my self out of practice in allot of sections of 3D so I have started a series of small practice projects. I'm trying not to spend too much time on these animations just quick exercises to analyze the mistakes and then completely re-do the animation rather than spending time hours fixing it, in hopes to be able to quicken the speed in which I am currently animating. Pardon the roughness of these projects its been a while since I've really sat down and animated other than the quick animatics I've been doing at work... Here is the first playblast I believe i spent approximately 6-8 hrs on, I'm hoping when I re do this back flip to cut the time in half. *Also software note, using Maya to animate and only Maya at work I use Max and I was taught Lightwave in school so in an attempt to better get acquainted with Maya this series of animations will be done with Maya.

I didnt quite finish this one as it got to a point it needed to many fixes, I'll post the next attemp at a back flip in the next coupld of days when I get some time....

In analyzing this clip I have found a major difference in timing and some serious sliding issues.One major problem I've come across is that after the flip the main controller of the character seems to not want to work as well upside down when flipped back, so had to leave her upside down. I believe the rig set up might not be the best for this exercise in particular and am looking into modifying it as well as finding a rig that is capable of handling this flip in order to compare rigs, in an effort to understand rigging in Maya.

One thought I had was to adding an additional controller to the main controller placed behind the character located at about torso level in order to use it to rotate the character in a more precise manor in accordance to the flip giving a better angle as it rotates.
